outside of windows 8, all anyone still needs is version 9.x. in fact, adobe released an update to version 9 today(9.5.3). version 10 was a bloated disaster, however, version 11 appears less bloated, but bloated nonetheless. version 10.x was 1 star, version 11.x is 2 1/2 stars for the less bloat, and version 9.x is 4 stars.when adobe no longer supports version 9, i'll give pdf-xchange viewer a try. it does look very promising.

when a security application starts adding browsers as a basically hidden function it's time to start looking elsewhere - i really do not agree with hidden installs. it's now off my recommendation list, also recent tests i've looked at show it to be pretty poor at finding spyware.@gatorfan95 - agree 100%

i installed the vista sp1 beta late 2007 and when the official roll out came around, windows update failed to recognize my copy of vista and i ended up doing i full reinstall. it took me a month to get it back in order.my vista runs fine now, photoshop is snappy and all my drivers work fine. it's just like microsoft intended it to be. it's not broke, so i'm not going to try to improve it with a service pack that may do more harm than good. i will take the update when it shows up as the final version.

"to offset adobe's costs in developing and operating digital editions and its associated content protection infrastructure, adobe plans to provide dynamic context-based ads within the user interface of the digital editions application in certain situations."it seems the definition of a "rich internet application" is an application which stays connected to the internet in order to deliver spam directly to your screen. is this adobe's attempt to bypass the browser and cut it's own slice of the internet advertising spend?

there is a fairly large difference between players based on sound quality alone: i use an good separate outboard dac with a decent amplifier & speakers with reasonable quality interconnects & aimp beats winamp into the weeds no contest.i use .flac encoded music some of the time now & aimp plays that great ~ if you are using a built in sound chip & or cheap sound card & or plastic speakers you probably wont notice the difference but also wont know what's on the audio you play either ~aimp does not have any associated junk-ware supplied with it as does winamp so you don't need to go to the effort of slimming it down. the are other audio players that are better than winamp on sound quality perhaps most of them actually ~you can do far, far better than this ~in linux audacious does a pretty good job ~(true media program neophytes ~ someone who is willing to pay a small amount to at least have some idea what the original recording sounded like, not really an obsession is it?)edit: @ roj - i'll give deadbeef a try tomorrow in linux, thanks for the tip :-)edit 2 @ roj - major increase in detail etc. with deadbeef, i was always a little dissatisfied with music on linux, that's now sorted - thanks :-)
